CONCERT AT ST PETER'S CHURCH BURNLEY WITH PENDLE YOUTH & CHILDREN'S CHOIR AND C4 CHOEUR FROM FRANCE

None

A thoroughly entertaining event at St Peter's Burnley involving 3 choirs, Pendle Youth and Children's Choir who were hosting the visiting C4 Choeur from France as well as the Arion. The C4 Choeur were in scintillating form with a wide variety of music ranging from traditional French songs to rousing items from Korea, South Africa and Brazil.

The whole event was enjoyed by a capacity audience which included the Mayor of Pendle and Pendle's MP Andrew Stephenson.

A MESSAGE FROM JULIE

I am writing to say how incredibly proud I was to be part of the Nelson Arion MVC on Wednesday at Derek Burnett's funeral. The choir lifted the service for Derek from what could have been a 'run of the mill' crematorium service to a beautiful tribute to a friend and colleague. I hope everyone enjoyed the rest of the afternoon with Derek's family and I am sorry I had to rush straight off. My Dad is actually due to come out of hospital at some point today. (It was good to see Juie's father Frank in the audience at the concert at St Peter's)

DEATH OF DEREK BURNETT

We are sad to report the death of yet another of the choir's long serving former member DEREK BURNETT.Derek passed away on the 25th May at the age of 85 at his home in South Cumbria and the choir were privileged to sing at his funeral at Beetham Hall Crematorium, Milnthorpe on 6th June 2018. Derek served the choir for over 50 years as a prominent member of the first tenor section until ill health forced his retirement some three years ago. He was a more than competant soloist - one remembers his expert rendition of the "Flower Song' from Carmen, not a piece to be attempted lightly and he paid his full part in the life of the choir, besides being a useful cricketer with Barrowford. We extend our deepest sympathies to Angela and the family.

DEATH OF PETER OGDEN

We are sad to report the death at the age of 89 of another former long serving choir member, PETER OGDEN. Peter was a loyal member of the Arion and stalwart of the second tenor section for well over 30 years serving as Choir Treasurer as well as being prominent on the committee. Peter had to retire from the choir in 2002 due to complications from a hip replacement operation which meant that his mobility was severely restricted, but he was an ever - present at Arion concerts. A full appreciation of Peter's life and contribution to the life of the choir will appear in the next edition of the 'Clarion', but we extend our deepest sympathies to his family.

Peter's funeral will take place on MONDAY 14TH MAY at 11am at SACRED HEART RC CHURCH, COLNE, followed by crfemation at SKIPTON CREMATORIUM  at 12.30pm

DEATH OF BEN CLARKSON

We are sad to report the death of another long serving former member, BEN CLARKSON, a stalwart of the baritone section for 33 years until his retirement from the choir in 2010 because of health issues. Ben will be remembered as a good and loyal member of the choir with a happy disposition and an affable nature. Ben's funeral took place on 1st May at Skipton Crematorium.
