The annual Celebrity Concertwas distinguished by some excellent singing by the choir and some truly outstanding playing by our guest artist guitarist JOHN GJYLACI. Because St Thomas's is a comparatively large venue and the sound of an acoustic guitar can get lost in such a large space, John Gjylaci used a judicious amount of electronic amplification, with the result that all the audience could experience the nuances of the performance. An excellent use of technology whereby all could hear and appreciate the musicianship and technique on show from this talented artist.

The end of the choir's year, the end of June 2017 saw the retirement from the choir of its longest serving singing member NEVILLE HUDSON. He has been an invaluable member of the bass section for an incredible 55 years, but now, at the age of 86 has decided to hand back his music and his choir uniform and instead of being on the platform at concerts will be content to be a member of the audience. At the annual dinner, Allan Walker, Choir Secretary, was presented with the Geoffrey Sutton Memorial Trophy, awarded annually to the choir member who, over the past 12 months, has made the greatest contribution to the lie of the choir. The Choir held its annual dinner at Nelson Golf Club on Friday 22nd September 2017 and this was the final event in the farewell to retiring Music Director Frank Smith. After a fulsome appreciation of Frank's qualities which saw a 60 year association with the choir, Choir Chairman Tony Young presented him with a cheque as a farewell gift on behalf of choir members, patrons and friends.
