Over its 110+ year life the Choir has competed in numerous Musical Festivals and won many prestigious awards. It is widely recognised amongst Male Voice Choir connoisseurs as being up with the leaders in the field of male voice singing.
In the 1980's the choir entered many festivals and competitions. During this time they were awarded the title of "Northern Male Voice Choir Champions: Huddersfield Festival"’. The choir has entered many competitions and festivals to date. One competition which is particularly prestigious in choral circles is the "Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod". Nelson Arion have entered this festival many times, and have the trophies to prove it: Male Voice Choir trophy at the ‘Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod’, First place winners: 1982, 1983, 1984, 1986 & 1989 The choir has also participated in the (Sir Edward) Elgar Festival, held in Worcester Cathedral. In 1991 they won the inaugural Sir Edward Elgar Festival Male Voice Trophy and won again in 1997 when the choir also took the Elgar Trophy for the outstanding choir in the festival. | ||
